Barracuda Networks Satisfies Customers’ Email Data Protection Needs with Comprehensive Barracuda Backup Service and Barracuda Message Archiver Solutions

Campbell, Calif., Feb. 10, 2009 – Barracuda Networks Inc. today announced that the Barracuda Backup Service now offers message-level backup for Microsoft Exchange and Novell GroupWise. Today’s announcement follows Barracuda Networks acquisition of Yosemite Technologies and the integration of the Barracuda Backup Service with Yosemite Backup, announced in January, and complements Barracuda Networks’ popular email archiving solution, the Barracuda Message Archiver. With solid product offerings in the backup and archiving space, Barracuda Networks aims to help organizations of all size to satisfy all aspects of their email data protection needs.

“Email is arguably the most important communication channel for many organizations,” said Stephen Pao, vice president of product management for Barracuda Networks. “With the Barracuda Backup Service and the popular Barracuda Message Archiver, we are providing solutions that easily and affordably address multiple facets of a complete email archiving and backup strategy, spanning brick layer restoration, complete email database recovery, and regulatory compliance.”

Fast and easy restoration of individual email messages
With message-level backup functionality, the Barracuda Backup Service can connect directly to Microsoft Exchange and Novell GroupWise to provide individual email backups for more granular restoration of user mailboxes and individual messages.

Following backup, emails can be stored locally and offsite to two geographically separate locations. This provides the ability to restore individual email messages, entire folders of emails, or all of the emails for a specific user without restoring the entire email server. Restored emails can be sent directly back to the original location in the user’s mailbox or to an alternate location.

“With the addition of our brick layer restoration, email administrators can now restore emails for individual users without the time and complexity of staging temporary email servers to restore backups,” said Pao.

Email server protection for disaster recovery
Complete server restoration can only be done if a full backup of the email server software and email database is available. Barracuda Backup Service with Yosemite Backup software provides the capability to do a full backup of Microsoft Exchange environments – including software, configuration, and email data – and ensure the complete restoration of an organization’s email server.

“We are always looking for ways to expand and improve our product offerings, all while keeping costs to a minimum for our customers,” said Pao. “The addition of message-level backup and Yosemite Backup to the Barracuda Backup Service provides customers with a complete backup solution that saves them thousands in per user fees.”

Email archiving for compliance
In addition to offering a full-featured backup solution for email, Barracuda Networks also offers the Barracuda Message Archiver, for a complete archive of all emails for compliance and e-discovery.

The Barracuda Message Archiver indexes and preserves all emails to achieve regulatory compliance. All inbound, outbound, and internal emails are captured and stored by the Barracuda Message Archiver so that messages can be found and reproduced as electronic evidence in a legal discovery process. The Barracuda Message Archiver also provides important compliance features such as the ability to import email and an auditor interface to streamline access to the archive by third parties. The Barracuda Message Archiver enforces retention policies so that emails cannot be deleted ad hoc.
