New Barracuda Web Application Firewall Capabilities Include Integrated XML Firewall and Antivirus

CeBIT 2009, Hannover, Germany, March 3, 2009 – (Hall 11 Stand B50) Barracuda Networks Inc. today launched the Barracuda Web Application Firewall 860 and 960 for enterprises and large organizations searching for an affordable way to secure Web applications, including corporate Web sites and XML Web Services. Priced at $24,999 and $34,999 respectively, the high-capacity Barracuda Web Application Firewall 860 and 960 offers complete protection against common Web attacks including SQL injections, OS command injections, Cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks and more.

"Over the past year and a half, Barracuda Networks has been successfully redefining the Web application security marketplace with unprecedented ease-of-use and value in the midmarket through the Barracuda Web Site Firewall product line," said Stephen Pao, vice president of product management for Barracuda Networks. "With today's announcement, we are combining our enterprise and midmarket product offerings into one complete product line and bringing Barracuda Networks’ ease-of-use and straightforward pricing to the high-end market."

The Barracuda Web Application Firewall 860 can service up to 150 backend servers and up to 600 Mbps of inbound Web traffic. The Barracuda Web Application Firewall 960 can handle up to 300 backend servers and up to 900 Mbps of inbound Web traffic.

"Ever since its inception, cost and complexity have throttled widespread adoption of Web Application Firewalls even as the need for this security technology has escalated," said Michael Suby, research director of Stratecast (a Division of Frost & Sullivan). "Barracuda Networks successfully inserted simplicity and affordability into its line of Web Application Firewall appliances aimed at the mid-market segment last year. With the Barracuda Web Application Firewall 860 and 960, Barracuda Networks is set to prove that this same formula can also benefit the enterprise market."

New Features for High-End Web Application Firewall Models
In addition to introducing new models, Barracuda Networks is augmenting the Barracuda Web Application Firewall 660 (formerly Barracuda Web Site Firewall 660), 860 and 960 to include anti-virus protection for file uploads, rate controls, and a fully integrated XML firewall for complete site to site protection at no additional charge.

With new anti-virus protection for file uploads available on the high-end Barracuda Web Application Firewall 660, 860 and 960, organizations can ensure that all file uploads are free of viruses and other malware. Securing file uploads with anti-virus protection is growing in relevance as organizations continue to deploy extranets that enable partners, customers, or others to share files through both custom Web applications and off-the-shelf collaboration portals such as Microsoft SharePoint.

Further, the fully integrated XML firewall functionality ensures that all business-to-business application exchange over XML Web Services is secured against denial of service and other application-level threats. Capabilities include WS-I conformance checks, SOAP validation, XML schema and WSDL enforcement, and protections common to standard Web (HTML) applications. With this new functionality, the Barracuda Web Application provides integrated security policy management across both traditional Web (HTML) and XML Web Services applications.
