Barracuda Networks Introduces Inbound Link Balancing Via Authoritative DNS
Posted: Tue Sep 08, 2009 10:04:00 AM

Barracuda Networks Inc. today announced Barracuda Link Balancer firmware release 1.2, which provides failover and load balancing for inbound traffic. Organizations can now provide redundant Internet links to reach Web servers hosted on their network. Using Authoritative DNS services, if a link goes down requests to the Web servers are transparently serviced through the next available active link.

“As organizations strive to improve both the scalability and reliability of their Internet connections, they are also looking to improve service to internal, remote and external users alike,” said Stephen Pao, vice president of product management for Barracuda Networks. “With the addition of inbound link balancing through DNS integration, the Barracuda Link Balancer continues to offer an easier solution at a lower price than traditional approaches to Internet link management.”

Administrators can configure DNS records on the Barracuda Link Balancer that detail how – or to which IP addresses – requests to domains hosted behind the link balancer should be resolved. When a user on the Internet makes a request for a Web site, the Barracuda Link Balancer will act as the authoritative DNS resolver and resolve the domain name to the IP address of the appropriate WAN interface.

By adding inbound link balancing through Authoritative DNS services, the Barracuda Link Balancer can be effectively used to provide reliability and bandwidth aggregation for Internet traffic in both directions. Organizations can now provide better service to users accessing the Internet from within the network as well as to customers accessing services within their network from the Internet.
