Web applications continue to be the top attack vector for hacks resulting in breaches, and attackers continue to get more sophisticated in their attempts to compromise websites and applications. But, are you doing enough to defend against these types of attacks?

Barracuda has been named a Challenger in the 2019 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Web Application Firewalls, this being the third year in a row Barracuda has been recognized in this report. In its analysis, Gartner recognized Barracuda for ability to execute and completeness of vision.

Adding advanced bot protection

Earlier this year, Barracuda introduced Advanced Bot Protection, which uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to help customers defend against the latest automated threats. Available as part of Web Application Firewall and WAF-as-a-Service solutions, the functionality fights malicious activity in four important ways:

  • bot spam detection,
  • credential stuffing prevention
  • request risk scoring
  • client finger printing

Barracuda built on this with the acquisition of advanced bot detection technology from InfiSecure Technologies in August. InfiSecure specializes in low-latency detection and mitigation of advanced bots, and the newly acquired technology will help add capabilities to Advanced Bot Protection.

What customers are saying

Barracuda customers are seeing the benefits of the Web Application Firewall and Web Application Firewall-as-a-Service. Here’s what Michael Johnson, Director of IT at Medefy recently shared with the Barracuda team about his experience with the solution.

“Using Barracuda’s five-step deployment wizard, we had WAF-as-a-Service up and running and fully configured in less than ten minutes. And, the unmetered, full-spectrum DDoS protection that’s included is crucial for preventing DDoS attacks and thereby ensuring that our services are always available to our customers. Now that we know the benefits, we can gain from a modern WAF solution, we are looking into expanding our deployment, possibly by adding virtual Barracuda WAF instances where appropriate. Barracuda is one of the few vendors who offer both a SaaS and a traditional cloud-hosted solution—not to mention hardware and virtual versions—that operate the same way. This is a level of flexibility that is rare among security vendors.”
